Look, Watch, See
The intention of “Look, Watch, See” is to shed light on how femme bodies are often socialized to be performers on a daily basis. Comprised of two segments, “Look, Watch, See” begins with a prolonged, roaming pre-show throughout the gallery, using an hour to move across a single room. The piece concludes with a 7 minute formal, proscenium-style choreographed segment, beginning with seated, doll-like movement, with an emphasis on direct eye contact with audience members. Naturally progressing in both speed and articulation, the movement becomes mobile and confrontational, culminating in primal, rageful movement, subverting the audience’s expectations of inertia and predictability, potentially revealing subconscious desires and internalized hierarchies.
